An early 19th century novel, Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, famously introduces the concept of Science Fiction to literature, as well as maintains Romanticism and Gothic elements throughout the story. Shelley’s novel has inspired several other works, such as several Frankenstein movie or play renditions, to include childhood films or cartoons, such as Frankenweenie. Seventeen years old at the time, Mary Shelley wrote a novel exhibiting controversial subjects, primarily the creation of  human life by a human; thus, displaying several “god-like” qualities. The novel begins with a frame story about a ship captain, Robert Walton, interested in adventure and scientific exploration; writing frequent letters to his sister, Walton describes his journey thus far and introduces the reader to the primary protagonist, Victor Frankenstein, depicted as the “stranger” that comes aboard the ship. After Frankenstein abandons the creature, other than our short encounter in the woods when Victor is returning from Geneva, we are not exposed to him again until Victor’s retreat to the mountains. In chapter eleven, the creature opens his tale saying he is not quite sure of the beginning of his being; his initial memories and sensations began with his retreat to the woods after Frankenstein’s apartment. Living off berries and nuts, the creature was confused but learning survival skills along the way, including how to set and maintain a fire. I found this lonely encounter may have been initially good for the creature because it allowed him to figure out his surroundings of this new life he was brought into; however, keeping in mind while he is the great, big creature, he is very much in the dark about life and society itself, and without Victor to help him, he was completely and utterly alone. While Mary Shelley’s novel exemplifies romantic writing, she also wields gothic elements into the story as well; creating an eerie, spooky feel immersed in dark emotions and nature. The protagonist in “Frankenstein” shift several times from Robert Walton to Victor Frankenstein to the Creature and back to Frankenstein. While Walton holds a less significant impact on the story Victor tells himself, all three point of views offer the gothic protagonist element in being and feeling isolated throughout their narrative; although Walton is not particularly a protagonist, he is a primary character of the exterior frame story. For example, in Walton’s case, he is on a ship seeking companionship yet feels isolated from his ship mates. In contrast, Victor isolated himself during his obsession of creating his monster, self-imposing his isolation. In Chapters 1-10, the author introduces the two major characters, Victor Frankenstein and the Creature, as well as several minor characters including Elizabeth Lavenza, Henry Clerval, and Justine Moritz. While these chapters follow Victor’s point of view, whom we find out is the stranger on board Robert Walton’s ship, the minor characters play just as a pivotal role in the story as Victor does. The three minor character’s I’ve chosen were all part of Victor’s childhood and hometownlife in Geneva, prior to his studies in Ingolstadt. To begin, Victor Frankenstein falls within several archetype roles to include the mad scientist and the creator god. Before his departure to Ingolstadt, however, he was primarily an intellectual interested in sciences and philosophy. Well guys, I woke up this morning at 8 am and began my day with a nice breakfast, watching YouTube Videos, and then completing my English homework. Also managing to read The Lord of Opium  by Nancy Farmer, I rated it a 2/5 stars because honestly, I found it extremely boring. When my mom came home, we ate a small lunch/snack and ran some errands and hung out. First, we went to Publix and bought some Valentines Day gifts for the family and then we went for a Starbucks date.(: It was nice. Since Wednesday was too hectic of a day for my mom's birthday dinner, we decided to have it this weekend at Olive Garden. All went well and it was a nice evening.<33

This morning I had french if that wasn't evident from the title. I've decided to create a weekly French curriculum in order to ensure that I study. Anyway, I was supposed to have Voice this morning but it got canceled since Dr. Bailey was sick. Therefore, my mom dropped me off at APSU at 10:40 so I had enough time to sign into my class and go to Media. I thought I would have a journal due but instead, it's due next week and in class we created a top 10 superbowl list. Next, I went to the gym with Heather for our Upper Body Burn class and then we studied for our Econ test at 3:10. Thankfully, today was Yoga night (our favorite class of the week) so that was just wonderful and we followed with our gym workout which went well(: 

I TODAY IS MY MOM'S BIRTHDAY AND MY BESTFRIEND (HEATHER)'S BIRTHDAY!!! So ironically my best friend and my mom share the same birthday and my mom's best friend (Gigi) and I share the same birthday. February 10 and September 26. Anyway, this morning I blissfully slept in until 8:00 before showering and getting ready for my day. Heather picked me up at 10:15 for school(: It was actually a snow day today for the high schools but for apsu we were still running. At 12:30, we went to Don't Have A Cow Vegan Cafe  with Brittany for Heather's birthday lunch and it was great!!! I used a coupon to buy Heather's lunch (it was free) and I got her a butterbeer; unfortunately, Brittany didn't have as much luck ordering and ended up getting the Chick'n Picatta and hating it...
