Missing Out? NOT.
Why is there such a fear of "missing out" ?
For instance, in high school, people feel obligated to go to Prom, Homecoming, Football games, Pep rallys, etc. Yes, there are people who really do want to go to these events, but there are plenty of people I know that don't really want to go but do anyway because they fear missing out...
I went to Prom with one of my close friends and I loved it, but I went to the Middle College prom and we only had like maybe 60 people. It was a very intimate setting and it just felt like a big party of friends.
I don't like football, but I was sort of pressured to feel as if I was missing out if I didn't go to the games. (I still only went to one game a year, the Warfield Shield game, since it was one of the biggest games).
I went to my freshmen year homecoming and honestly it was dreadfully boring, so I didn't go the next years and people were like "aw you're missing out." Sophomore year, I felt I had to go but didn't have a date and actually ended up crying most of the night. Looking back, I know I didn't miss a thing.
People feel obligated to go to these social events but you don't have to.
High school is far from the best years of your life and although you may have friends for life, when you all graduate you'll be going your own paths and may never even speak to each other again.
I was never one for the whole "high school experience", I went to some just to say I did, but they never gave me "great memories" as they're suppose to.
My fondest "high school" memories aren't even the ones that had to do with these popular social events, for example...
1. The bus rides with my best friend Caitlyn and later car rides since she could drive.
2. Movie nights with David, in fact during my junior year homecoming, I had David come over for a movie and pizza.
3. Church events; Easter service/picnic, Summer VBS marina excursion, etc.
4. The Renaissance Festival with my family! <3
5. Sleepovers with my gal pals.
6. The few summer parties I've gone to through the years (either pool or bonfire, depending on the season).
7. Funny class moments; Freshmen year World History was great, Sophomore year Ancient History and Theatre were always a treat, Junior year French was dreadful (but hilarious due to my friends Hanna, Allie, and Rebecca) and Guitar with the sweetest teacher ever, Coach Chartrand.
8. My small birthday parties through the years.
9. Coffee dates with my friends.
10. Silke's lunches primarily with Hanna, Ramona, Martina, and my mom.

See, now THOSE are memories I'll cherish forever.
But the Pep Rally's? The dances? The football games?
They're all a blur. I mean, some were fun and I know plenty of people love them.
But if you're one of those that don't really like them, don't feel obligated to go.
Believe me, you'll make your own high school memories<3
You're not missing out, you're making your own fun. :)
FINALLY! Someone who understands!!!
