Insight To My Essentials

Monday: January 19, 2015

For the longest time I wanted to major in English, I had this idea that if I wanted to be a writer then I'd want to master the ability in every way I can, however, I soon realized majoring in English would probably make me hate the language so much and I did not want that. Lately I've been thinking more and more about journalism particularly because I love photography and writing as well as informing people about things with or without my opinion being included.

People always ask me why my book bags are so heavy or why my purse might be excessively large and my answer is always quite simple to them: I just want to be prepared.

Recently I went through a very big purse stage which kind of came out of the blue since for the longest time I hated purses and was more of a backpack kind of girl. However, I soon realized I had too much stuff with me all the time to have purses.

But this leads to me to the photo above, minus all my school supplies (which is usually a lot because I'm kind of an OCD freak when it comes to school), these are my basic necessities in my bag at all times. Let me begin from left to right.

First you'll see a light blue sketchpad underneath the student handbook & calendar, that is because sometimes I just get a sudden urge to draw something. When it comes to actually sketching and drawing, my ideas are either there or not. They appear suddenly and disappear even faster, so I carry a sketchpad around me everywhere, in case I get inspired.

Then you'll notice the student handbook & calendar from the local university I'm somewhat attending as a Middle College student. I actually own about four planners and currently have three calendars in my room (told you I was kind of an OCD freak)... I just really enjoy marking all my events down. In fact, I even use eight high lighters to accent what each event is (green for school, yellow for work, orange for church/volunteer work, light blue for plans, dark blue for holidays, purple for appointments, pink for birthdays, and red for activities/lessons).

Next, the two cameras. The black one is a Canon EOS Rebel T3, my first official camera that my parents got me for christmas a few years ago when I really wanted to sign up for photography classes. That was when the first real spark for photography was ignited within me and I've been very passionate about it ever since. The white one is a fujifilm instax mini 7, basically a new form of a polaroid camera and I actually got that this year for christmas and have been absoluetly in love with it ever since.

The pens and highlighter are just a random couple of utensils I usually always carry, minus a pencil, because for some reason I just always know I or someone else will have the need to write something down at some point throughout my day, so why not?

The two paris notebooks.
The one on the bottom is actually my journal. I carry this literally everywhere and I even have a paris box that I keep all my journals all the way back to my first one that my grandmother gave me when I was about six years old. Journaling has always been apart of my life because I want to keep my memories and sometimes I just like to create little stories of my regular day. Writing is a skill that's always been a massive factor into who I am.
Now the notebook on the top is my lyric journal, where I write and sometimes compose my own songs. Sometimes a melody just hits me or lyrics and so I write them down to reflect on later or begin just writing songs.

Back to the tiny "K" notebook in the middle, that was a gift from one of my friends for my birthday last year and actually I love tiny notebooks like that because they provide a space for me to write day to day things like reminders, a grocery list, blog ideas, just every day things that I might forget otherwise.

Currently I am reading "Uncle Tom's Cabin" by Harriet Beecher Stowe and to be quiet honest, I always always always always have a book on me. Even when I go to sleepovers, I bring a book. Clearly I am a big book worm (in fact last year alone I read one hundred books and my goal this year is to reach two hundred). I wholeheartedly love books and I feel like they really help strengthen my skill as a writer as well.

Lastly, my laptop, so basically my life. Ha, just kidding... sort of. I got this Apple Macbook last year for christmas I believe, mainly because my old one had crashed a few months before and I really needed my own for school work and such. I go on my laptop everyday and use it for hours upon hours of the day (which may sound bad, but...). I use it for everything; social media, reading the news or articles, watching vlogs or youtube, writing papers or completing homework, checking my email, downloading pictures from my phone.... pretty much everything. I carry my laptop in my book bag every single day because it is pretty much vital to my existence....

So that's just a little insight to my creative essentials and a little insight to myself.
If you have any vital essentials, feel free to comment and let me know :)
